Orange Cardamom Cutouts

These little gems add a hint of citrus sunshine to your snowy Yule!



Orange Cardamom Cutouts

*Makes about 3 dozen cookies


1 ½ c. Confectioners’ Sugar

1 c softened Butter

1 Egg

1 t. Vanilla

Finely grated peel of 1 Orange

2 ½ c. All Purpose Flour

2 t. Baking Powder

1 t. ground Cardomom

½ t. Salt

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cream together butter and sugar.
  • Add egg, vanilla and orange peel.
  • Stir in combined flour, baking powder, cardamom and salt until well combined.
  • Form into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm, about an hour.
  • Divide dough in half, and, keeping one half refrigerated, roll out to about 1/8 ¼ inch thickness.  Cut into desired shapes. Re-roll scraps with additional chilled dough until all dough has been used.
  • Bake on parchment lined cookie sheets about 7 minutes until just firm and barely browned at edges.
  • Remove from cookie sheets and cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Frost thinly and decorate.
  • Allow to dry completely before stacking/storing.


Orange Glaze

Juice of one orange

1-1/2 c. Confectioners’ Sugar

  • Combine in small bowl until smooth and easily spreadable. This glaze should flow easily on cookies.
